Maybe it’s just a pretext to make it easier to jump ship (code for: expatriate). Instead of telling the border personne that your reason for visiting the Land of the Maple is to seek asylum as a political refugé from a worrisome political state, you can just say, “I’m going to the Convention”. That will surely get you in.
